The Stories Our Rugs Could Tell

Do I have a story for you this week!

Linda Alderdice came to Northport last week to register hand hooked rugs for the Heritage Rug Registry of Nova Scotia that were hooked over 25 years ago.  A total of 21 hooked pieces over 25 years old, made in Nova Scotia were archived with the Heritage Rug Registry. A number gets assigned to the piece and a label supplied to be attached.  Down the road, if that piece pops up and someone wants to know the history of the rug, it can be looked up as it is logged with the Heritage and all available information on the rug.

The above rug was hand hooked by Mary MacKay from Tidnish, N.S.  She is the great grandmother of the current family living in Tidnish.  Mary was a homemaker and mother. The rug was kept in the parlor in pristine condition and later years was found between the mattresses of a bed as it was believed to help keep the rug flat.  Joyce Baxter was visiting a friend (Joanne) who now owns this beautiful rug and was passed onto Joanne by her mother in law. The rug is dated to be 150 years old!  Mary MacKay was born in 1854 and was 78 when she passed in 1932. This rug is gorgeous and kept in amazing condition.  What a thrill to see!

I have worked a bit on my Christmas stocking for my new granddaughter Alina.  Hopefully it will be finished in time for Christmas.

I also worked a bit on my Winter Wonder project, just a bit put in for the roof.

In the mail this week; no finished projects to share by my customers again this week.

Have a great week everyone!
