Ghost Stories and Friends, November 06, 2022

I know Halloween has come and gone, but I have a ghost story to tell you. The above photo is of the Algonquin Resort, St. Andrews, New Brunswick.  It is as beautiful at night as it is in the day.  I had attended the annual Quoddy Loopers Hook-In yesterday in St. Andrews, so much fun but more on that in a minute.  We drove up to St. Andrews the night before so that we could do a little touring of this wonderful little sea side town.  I had never been to St. Andrews so I was excited to visit.

We drove to see the Algonquin late in the afternoon on Friday, you can see from the below picture how beautiful this old resort is. We decided next year we would love to stay at the Algonquin. Lynne and Susan went inside to obtain information and found out about a 'ghost tour' that was occurring that night at the Algonquin.  We immediately decided we needed to take in the ghost tour after supper.

Earlier in the afternoon, we had met up with Audrey Norman who lives in St. Andrews, we invited her and her mother Doris to have supper with us.  They brought their friend Diane also from St. Andrews and they had never been on the 'ghost' tour and wanted to join us.  Below is a picture of our gang.  Many laughs as we visited the bowels of the resort and many ghost stories were told but one is my favorite.  The young man giving the tour told us about a specific room in the hotel that is believed to be haunted.  A young phantom bride who is said to live in room 473, can be heard weeping.  Her finance was lost at sea and was not able to make their wedding day and as of a result, she died of a broken heart. The young man giving the tour said that one night that he was working the back shift at the front desk, he received a call around 2 a.m. from the room next to the haunted room, asking if he would check on the room next to them as they could hear weeping and was worried someone was hurt.  The front desk guy said yes he would definitely check it out not mentioning to the caller that there was no one booked into room 473 that night! Yikes! Shivers up our spins and the girls want to stay in room 473 next year!

The Quoddy Loopers hook-in was just fabulous, so many people we haven't seen in so long, it was wonderful and what was even more amazing and sad at the same time, a founding member of the group, Sandra Lewis had passed and donated her paper patterns, worms and rug hooking books to be given away at the hook-in.  The hook-in was in her memory. We are so fortunate to have such giving rug hookers and passing it on is the way to go.  Some photos of the day below.

The town of St. Andrews, decorated their light poles on Water Street with lovely crochet poppies.  I thought this was such a wonderful idea.

In the mail this week; Barbara Wilson, shared her designed and hooked rug, it has Della's Rug Hooking Studio hand dyed Pixie Dust yarn in the background.  Thanks for sharing Barb.

Wendy Genge shared her recent lovely knitted hat and mitts using Della's Rug Hooking Studio hand dyed yarns.  Wendy donates her knitting's to less fortunate children in need.  Thanks Wendy for all you do.

Jean Fawthrop and her cousin Cheryl Grant from South Mountain, Ontario had a great visit together at Jean's for 16 days here in Amherst.  They wanted to hook a pattern together while Cheryl was here, so they hooked this Deanne Fitzpatrick pattern, used the same wool fabric and yarns except the background colour.  They are both beautiful and so neat to see how the same pattern can be hooked by two different people and how different they can look.

Have an awesome week everyone.
